Rough Draft
The United States makes up only 5% of the total world’s population, but it has 25% of
the total global prison population (NAACP). There has been a drastic increase in the prison
population in the US as in 1980, there were 1.8 M incarcerated individuals, and by 2016, there
were 6.6 M (National Institute of Justice Reports). These aren’t just numbers; these are people in
the correctional institutions of the country. A significant number of the population is in jail, yet
they are treated in inhumane ways. They are denied their rights, yet they are as human as the rest
of the population. All inmates should be respected because they have a value to the community
even as inmates, they have a family who looks upon them, and the humanity they get will
quicken their rehabilitation process. All inmates should be respected because they have a value
to the community even as inmates, they have a family who looks upon them, and the humanity
they get will quicken their rehabilitation process.
Incarcerated people have value to the community even as inmates. Criminologists have
shown that even though inmates are considered as dangers to the society, their presence in Prison
helps to reduce crime rates in society. Research has shown that Prisons offer high school diploma
and degree training. They also offer vocational training. This helps to reduce recidivism as
convicts can find work as soon as they are released (Vacca, 2004). Research has also shown that
convicts who maintain contact with their family or spouse while in prison have a lower
recidivism rate than convicts who don’t (Carlson, 1991). This shows that even though convicts
were incarcerated, they can help reduce the community’s crime rate by avoiding re-committing
crime. Allowing convicts to be in touch with their family helps make the rehabilitation process
more effective. This, therefore, shows that convicts help the community grow economically by
finding jobs and also helps the community to be safer by reducing crime rates.

The availability of prison help in mentoring the livelihood of the people living in that
community. The prison provides people with experience in various job opportunities that will
help them earn a living to cater to their needs. these opportunities, on the other hand, provide
fruitful activities for the people who reduce their chances of indulging themselves in criminal
activities. They provide a high school diploma, degree training, and vocational training that help
the people access job opportunities when they are released from the jails. This helps in reducing
the crime rates in the community and improve the standards of living for the people. It also helps
in the general development of the community economic standards (Glass, 2016). Work cited
Glass, D. (2016). An Investigation into the rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners in
Victoria. ADVANCING CORRECTIONS JOURNAL: EDITION# 1-2016, 101.
The United States is regarded to have a high number of prisoners of different diversities
being convicted for criminal activities. These diversities are based on the origin country and
cultural beliefs such as religion. These diversities lead to inhuman treatment for the minor group
of inmates by the major group of inmates. On the other hand, inmates from different countries
also experience inhuman treatment. The inmates are denied their human rights which, is a major
concern in mentoring the inmates. In this view, all inmates should be treated equally for
opportunities being offered. This provides them to have their human rights respected to quicken
their rehabilitation processes. They should be regarded as of value to the community because the
prisons rehabilitate them to acquire training that help the compete favorably for the job
opportunities (Tahamont, Yan, Bushway, & Liu, 2015). Work cited Tahamont, S., Yan, S.,
Bushway, S. D., & Liu, J. (2015). Pathways to prison in New York state. Criminology & Public
Policy, 14(3), 431-453

Prisons mentor the livelihoods of inmates which, provide them with opportunities which
improve their living standards and the general economic growth of the community. The inmates
released from the prisons are referred to their communities and their family members. It provides
them with the opportunities to continue with the relationship with the family members and help
in improving their livelihood. The training developed at the prisons creates their background
levels to venture to the area of expertise to earn a living. This context describes prisons as a
major drive in improving the standards of living for people convicted of crimes. Lack of job
opportunities is the major cause of people indulging in criminal activities. This result in them to
be convicted in prions to serve jail term as a punishment for their wrongdoings. On the other
hand, the prisons have developed certain training that is offered to the inmates during their jail
terms. After completion of the jail terms, the inmates are released and are regarded with
qualification on the certain job experience. These job qualifications increase the chances of
venturing in productive activities that earn him or her living to improve the standards of living
(Tahamont, Yan, Bushway, & Liu, 2015). Work cited Tahamont, S., Yan, S., Bushway, S. D., &
Liu, J. (2015). Pathways to prison in New York state. Criminology & Public Policy, 14(3), 431453
Equality humanity for all inmates quicken the rehabilitation processes in the prisons.
Respect for human rights for the inmates provide a conducive environment for learning and
quick acquisition of the skills taught. The inmates get free socialization with their fellow inmates
and their tutors to improve their learning. Humanity treatment provides the ground for the view
of the prison as a punishment for their wrongdoings but as a learning institution for their well
being. The inmates acquire skills in various jobs which, help them venture in the job market to
reduce their chances of indulging in criminal activities. For instance, the Norway Halden prison
5
introduced humanity as a major concern for the inmates to help in the rehabilitation of the
prisoners. The main objective of this strategy was to get the inmates out of their criminal
activities (Benko, 2018). Work cited Benko, J. (2018). The Radical Humaneness of Norway’s
Halden Prison: The goal of the Norwegian penal system is to get inmates out of it. NY Times
Mag. Retrieved, 10.
Humanity treatment for inmates is a major concern that is regarded in many prisons
globally. It is done to create a conducive environment for the inmates to get orientation on
various job opportunities. It helps in eliminating the bad notion for prisons in providing
punishment for their wrongdoing. They view the prisons as rehabilitation centers which help in
mentoring them to engage themselves with productive activities which earn a living to improve
their standards of living. The American Prison System has developed this concept in the
management of the prisons in the country. The high number of inmates that are referred to
prisons in the United States are covered by different diversities which, is a major cause of
inhuman treatment in the prisons. On the other hand, the system has developed training for the
inmates for high school diplomas, degree training and, vocational training for the Inmates. The
humanity treatment for all inmates help in providing a smooth flow of learning activities which
helps them acquire the skills to venture in the job market (Lyons, 2017). Work cited Lyons, J.
(2017). The Systematic Neglect of Inmates Suffering from Substance-Use Disorder in the
American Prison Systems. Brigham Young University Prelaw Review, 31(1), 7.

their standards of living. Inmates from a minority group are subjected to abuse from inmates of
the major group. The minor group inmates are denied their right of humanity for abuse from the
major group. For instance, the case of Philippian’s prisons, inmates from the poor backgrounds
received abuses from inmates from well-developed individuals. The inmates from the poor
backgrounds received mistreatment from the other inmates which led to court interference to
curb the abuse (Narag& Jones, 2017). Work cited Narag, R. E., & Jones, C. R. (2017).
Understanding prison management in the Philippines: A case for shared governance. The Prison
Journal, 97(1), 3-26.
Respect for inmates’ human rights is an important factor in mentoring the livelihood of
the inmates. Respect provides a good understanding between the inmates and the prison’s
management in the rehabilitation processes. The rehabilitation process is concerned with
nurturing the inmates with job experiences which, help them compete favorably in the job
market. On the other hand, the experiences developed to enable individuals to access job
opportunities for their livelihood to earn a living. This helps in improving the living standards of
the people and the general economic growth of the community. It also helps in maintaining a
peaceful community with few people involving themselves in criminal activities.

Feedback Reflection
Feedback from Writing Activity 2:
Stronger APA citations and integrating of citations can enhance your analysis. Note expectations
moving forward: Support claims with at least three (3) quality, relevant references. Use credible,
academic sources available through Strayer University’s Resource Center. Consider these
improvements: Please review for persuasive essay
writing:(1)https://www.hamilton.edu/academics/centers/writing… (2)
https://www.umuc.edu/current-students/learning-res… Also, review the APA documentation and
recommendations in this link: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/
How Feedback Was Used:
In activity 2, I chose to write on the topic “prison management for rehabilitation process”. From
the feedback from my professor, the work adhered to most of the requirements in terms of the
layout and the correct choice of the topic. Despite the excellent work done, the professor
reviewed my paper and gave me some feedback to make it better. The feedback was on the
persuasive writing and paper format. With the help of the links provided, I was to observe these
two in the next draft. I was advised to make the draft more persuasive and adhere to the APA
format of writing. The first feedback was to use APA format in my next writing. I realized that I
had not observed all the formats of APA paper. After going through the provided links, I realized
that my references were well cited according to the required form. From the materials provided, I
learned many other details of APA paper that I did not know I now know that whenever I am
using the above format, I must differentiate the first page. The topic must be preceded with
words “running head” in the header though I am not aware of its implication. I had failed to
differentiate my paper in my previous activity. I included it in activity 3.

How Feedback Will Help You with Future Writing:
It is helpful and helped me to generate references electronically unlike, in the past where I used
to do it manually. This technique will be helpful to me in future writing. In later essays, I expect
that I will manage to do in-text citations, especially where authors are more than two. I also
realized that the topic I had chosen to write about was very controversial. It involved many
parties, including the government. The government agencies are likely to oppose my
recommendations. They will be reluctant given that the current system grants little freedom to
the inmate. Imprisonment is a corrective mechanism that currently denies inmates liberty as a
way of punishment. Therefore, giving them freedom means adjusting part of the system to
accommodate them. Because of this, the feedback was essential in making me write a persuasive
essay. The intention of writing this draft is to show the importance of respect for human rights in
the prison for quickening the rehabilitation process for the inmates.
