Guns on Campus Argument
The argument of students to be allowed to access guns while in the campus premises
have been argued for or against by multiple authors. In this scenario there will be prioritizing on
authors such as David Burnett as well as Darby Dickerson. According to the argument of Darby
Dickerson, the students should be omitted from acquiring guns on campus locations. This is
different in relation to the argument of David Burnett. This is due to the fact that Burnett argues
that students should be allowed to have guns in campuses. Hence, according to both authors, they
have diverged argument regarding whether students should have guns or not.
On the argument for having guns in campuses, Burnett uses some supporting details
including. Firstly, there would be minimizing the occurrence of more tragedies in campuses
since the students will be in a position of protecting themselves. Additionally, according to the
article written by Burnett, he explains how more lives would have been saved at Virginia Tech if
students were in a position of holding firearms (Burnett, 5). In addition, when students are
educated the importance acquiring guns safely, it will be used as protective item in case of
danger. In these regards, there is the need of students to have guns in campuses. Contrary, Darby
Dickerson has supporting details against the student enquiring guns at campuses, which includes.
Firstly, there is the likelihood of injuries and careless shooting thus enduring their lives as well
as the lives of their friends. Additionally, if the students are in control of drug abuse, there is the

prospect of misusing the guns thus harming others. Moreover, if the students will be permitted
guns, there will be the likelihood of gun theft within and outside the campus premises. Therefore,
through these supporting details Dickerson indicates that there is no need for students to have
guns on school (Dickerson,3).
Both argument of Burnett as well as Dickerson are factual. However, in my opinion, I
wouldn’t be right for students to be allowed to hold guns while in campuses. Guns are risky war
tools, which should not be handled to students. There is the likelihood of careless harms and
injuries to students and their friends if they are allowed to have guns. Therefore, I would rather
stand with the argument of Dickerson as compared to Burnett.
